Your goal, when it comes to writing for the web, is to appear in the top Google search results. What’s the most effective way to do it? Here are 6 steps to writing top-notch web content.

As with any self-respecting guide, each step is clearly explained and laid out, with its main characteristics.

1- Be Prepared!

It’s essential to prepare for writing an SEO-optimized article. You should decide in advance about the type of content you want to publish. Next, determine the type of content that connects to your target audience, or readers you want to reach with your articles. For instance, a website focused on heart conditions and cataracts will reach an older audience.

Preparation makes a big difference on the type and overall tone of the articles. Writing for readers is key to optimal performance!

2- Keyword research

Keywords are terms that often turn up in articles. When someone enters a keyword in a search bar, it displays the most optimized articles. Keyword analysis (using Google Keyword Planner, in particular) shows which keywords are most frequently used, and therefore, the most competitive, as well as keywords that are more precise but may be less desirable.

3- Article structure

Article structure is critical to leveraging SEO. Articles should be organized in paragraphs (not too long) and separated by clear subtitles. The purpose is to quickly grab the readers’ attention as well as Google’s, which prefers well-divided content with reliable sources.

Don’t write just anything! Your information should come from a reputable source. When you’ve established the structure of future article, you can start writing.

4- Why it’s called First Draft

This invaluable step means “throwing out” what you want to communicate to the readers. Don’t skirt around the topic- being direct is the best approach. Your introduction should be concise and get right to the point.

Make sure you give your articles a first review, where you add information, delete what you don’t need and fine-tune some of the contents.

5- Proofreading

Proofreading is extremely important. This is where you correct spelling errors and verify that everything is perfect. Google considers a text to be good quality if it’s over 1,000 words. You can add to paragraphs or rewrite sentences during proofreading.

6- SEO

When the article is ready and finalized, SEO optimization is next. You need…

  • … a catchy title of about 7 or 8 words..
  • … a brief meta-description with the main keyword of the article.
  • … images that reflect the main topic.
  • … To fill in text with subtitles.
  • It takes time and consistent effort to write a good article on the web… and it takes a good strategy! If you need any assistance with the writing guide, just contact us!
